Colt Starting

The first 60 days of foundation put on any young horse will lay the basis for that horses future. Many of the problem horses we see are man made issues caused by poor foundation training.

The foundation begins with halter breaking and early handling. Halter breaking is often rushed due to lack of time, but work done now on catching, leading and handling will stay with the horse all it's life. It is vital that these early sessions give the colt confidence.

As we progress through the roundpen, groundwork and initial rides, so the foundation is built. Colts must not be bullied or forced into action, they need to be helped and guided to build a secure relationship with a rider.
