Most horses are located at or near Penn National Race Track; aka, Hollywood Casino, in Grantville, PA - near Harrisburg.

If you are not prepared to make a purchase
within 10 days, please do not make an appointment. Once listed for sale, most of these horses need to be sold and moved as
soon as possible.
The track is open mornings, therefore, mornings are when trainers and grooms
are available. Plan to arrive anywhere from 8:00 am to noon, but your appointment will be confirmed via email and/or phone,
depending on the seller's schedules.
YOU MUST HAVE A PHOTO I.D. IF YOU ARE OVER 18! NO I.D., NO
ENTRY!
NOTE: No dogs are
allowed on the grounds: not even inside a vehicle, so please leave them home!
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN VISITING THE TRACK!
- When
in the "shedrows" (barns), please respect other people's horses by NOT touching them - they can and will bite,
and the horse may be entered in a race that same night.
- If a horse is walked past, always stand to the stall-side
of the shedrow (aisleway). The horses are trained to kick away from their handler, who is on the horses' left side. All
shedrow traffic moves counter-clockwise around the barn.
- You will see HUNDREDS of other horses; on walkers,
in stalls and on the track. They may be owned by trainers we do not work with, or they may be horses who run for $25,000 or
more. They are usually not for sale.
HOW CAN THE ACTUAL PURCHASE PROCESS WORK?
We and the trainers/sellers will attempt to provide you with
as much up front information as possible on the horse(s) you will be viewing. However, because of the fast-paced nature of
racing, horses CAN turn over quickly. One suggestion may be to be prepared to make a purchase immediately. This includes having
cash in hand and a trailer ready to take the horse home. An alternate suggestion is to look one day, negotiate the sale, leave
a deposit and arrange for a pre-purchase exam (see below, PRE-PURCHASE EXAMS). We suggest a deposit to hold the horse only
for your own protection. Mix & Match can help arrange payment, registration paper transfers, health certifications (for
shipping purposes) and even help with shipping arrangements if needed.
Long distance management
of your sale is no problem either! Mix & Match has placed horses not only in Pennsylvania but Ohio, Maryland, North and
South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Missouri, Arkansas - even Canada! Health papers ship with the horse; Registration papers
ship directly to YOU via Certified mail or Federal Express.
EVALUATING YOUR PURCHASE
If you are not experienced or comfortable looking at these horses on your
own, you're welcome to bring someone with you (such as a trainer). The horses are typically led out of their stalls and
walked and jogged in-hand, then stood for close inspection.
Penn Nat'l. will not allow you to ride anywhere
on the grounds without a track license. You MAY be able to pre-arrange to see a horse ridden FOR you for a $25 charge. Ask
for details.
PRE-PURCHASE EXAMS
If
you wish to have a vet examine your potential buy, it is usually necessary for it to occur right on the grounds at the track.
In most cases, you are not allowed to use your own veterinarian; they require special licenses to practice on the grounds.
Typical schedule time is approx. 1 week out. M&M is happy
to provide contact information for the private vets who operate at the track. Ask for details!
DIRECTIONS TO THE TRACK (barn area):
- From Rt.
15: Follow Rt. 15 North to Harrisburg; Pick up Rt. 581, following signs "to Rt. 83"; Follow Rt. 83 North to Rt.
81 North
- From Rt. 81 (north or south), take exit #80. Follow signs for Hollywood Casino (away from Hershey)
- Continue straight on Bow Creek Rd. to the stop sign at the "T" in the road, approx. 1 mile. (ignore alternate
race track and casino entrances). Turn RIGHT - Mountain Road
- You'll pass another entrance to the casino,
then you'll start to see long, red horse barns and one end of the race track.
- Take the next road to the
right, Firehouse Road
- Take an immediate right and stop at the Stable Gate, where you will need to present your
I.D. and be signed in.
